Men's Tennis Drops Home Match to No. 52 Georgia Tech, 4-3

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 57-ranked Maryland men's tennis team fought a hard battle today at the Tennis Center at College Park, but the Terps came up short as the No. 52 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets won, 4-3.
Maryland (10-9, 2-8 Atlantic Coast Conference) began the event with a win at No. 1 doubles when Andrew Orban and Boris Fetbroyt defeated Georgia Tech's David North and George Gvelesiani, 8-3. The Yellow Jackets then tied the doubles competition when Zach Rath and Scott Blackmon captured an 8-5 victory over Trey Taylor and Michael Coleman at the third spot.
Georgia Tech (6-14, 3-7 ACC) clinched the doubles point at the No. 2 position when Eric Molnar and Luke Rassow-Kantor overcame Nicolas Frayssinoux and Scott Fink 9-8, (8-5).
Rath picked up the Yellow Jackets' second point of the day when he defeated Fink 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Rassow-Kantor came in at No. 5 and defeated Maryland's Nickolai Nielsen, 6-1, 6-4.
With Georgia Tech winning 3-0, Maryland turned to Frayssinoux for the Terrapins' first point of the match. After losing the first set 2-6 to Jose Muguruza, Frayssinoux dominated the second set with a 6-0 win, and followed with a 7-6 (7-3) win in the third set to bring the score to 3-1.
Georgia Tech secured the victory over Maryland at No. 2 singles when Molnar downed David Kwon 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Maryland also received wins from Fetbroyt and Orban in singles. Fetbroyt won over Austin Roebuck 6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6, and Orban defeated Blackmon 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 3.
Maryland will play its final regular match of the season at home this Sunday against No. 20-ranked Clemson. The Terrapins and Tigers will face off at 1:30 p.m. Admission to the Tennis Center is free.
