Dobbie, Kasper Named Nominees For Tewaaraton Trophy

    WASHINGTON, D.C. - Juniors Dana Dobbie and Kelly Kasper have both been named nominees for the 2007 Tewaaraton Trophy, announced today by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation. The Terrapins are two of 17 nominees which will be trimmed down to five finalists. The winner will be announced at the Awards Banquet on May 30.

    Dobbie, a transfer from Ohio and a native of Guelph, Ontario, has made a huge impact in her first season in College Park. She leads the team with 43 goals and is second with 54 points. She is currently fourth in the nation in draw controls, securing 3.79 per game and 55 in all. She is also 21st in the country with 2.93 goals per outing.

    Dobbie is also tied for the team lead with 32 ground balls and her 19 caused turnovers are third. She has been credited with four game-winning goals, also best on the team.

    Kasper has been a mainstay in the Maryland midfield the last two seasons, starting every game she has played in. This season, she has racked up 17 goals and her 18 assists rank second on the team.

    The Eldersburg product is a force in every stat category as she leads the team with 23 caused turnovers and is tied for third with 23 draw controls. Kasper has also secured 17 ground balls.

    The No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament is on the line this Sunday when the Terps travel to Virginia Tech to take on the Hokies at noon at the Virginia Tech Lacrosse Stadium.
