April 4, 2007
The Terps hit the road Wednesday morning for the 2007 NCA Collegiate Cheer Championship held at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Terps will begin defense of their 2006 NCA all-girl national championship on Thursday during the preliminary round of competition; they are set to perform at 11:04 a.m.
Maryland will face seventeen teams in the All Girl I division; this division consists of teams without males that are Division IA, I or IAA. The top eight teams from prelims will continue on to finals that will be held Friday from 4:35 p.m. - 5:55 p.m. The only score that carries over from prelims to finals is the crowd involvement score. Ranking from prelims decide the order of the competition for the finals; the leading team will get to perform last in finals.
"I am feeling very confident going into this competition," said head coach Jarnell Bonds. "The team was amazing Monday night. They gave an flawless send-off performance with wonderful energy in the Comcast Center Pavilion in front of 150 fans. I feel they are well prepared due to the guidance of our three captains who have kept the team's eye on the prize."
Last year the Terrapins edged out five-time national champions University of Louisville for the title by scoring a 9.31 out of 10 points.
