Men's Tennis to Take on Tobacco Road This Weekend

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 55-ranked Maryland Terrapins men's tennis team will travel to Tobacco Road in North Carolina this weekend to face two highly-ranked conference opponents, No. 16 Duke and No. 6 North Carolina.
Both matches will be webcast on ACC Select.
Maryland (10-6, 2-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) is 1-3 on the road in conference play this season.
Last Sunday, the Terrapins lost to the North Carolina State Wolfpack, 6-1. Maryland was led by sophomore Aaron Carr, who collected the Terps' only singles win of the day. Carr posted a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 victory over NC State's David Rozek.
The Terrapins and Blue Devils will face off at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Ambler Tennis Stadium in Durham, N.C. Duke (11-7, 4-2 ACC) maintains a 7-1 home record for the 2007 season.
Sophomore Kiril Dimitrov leads the Blue Devils and is currently ranked No. 48 in the nation. Seniors Joey Atas and Peter Rodrigues also have been nationally recognized; Atas is ranked No. 69 and Rodrigues comes in at No. 115.
Atas has also gained a top-ten national ranking in doubles competition with junior David Goulet. The pair is ranked No. 5.
On Wednesday, Duke lost its first home contest of the spring season when No. 11 Wake Forest defeated them, 2-4.
After Saturday's match in Durham, the Terrapins will venture to Chapel Hill to take on the Tar Heels at noon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
North Carolina leads the ACC with an unbeaten record of 18-0. On Wednesday against North Carolina State, the Tar Heels turned to junior Will Plyler, who clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-1 win over Andre Iriarte.
The Tar Heels' Benjamin Carlotti is currently ranked No. 63 nationally.
Next weekend, the Terrapins will close out the spring 2007 season with home matches against No. 48 Georgia Tech and No. 28 Clemson.
