Maryland Advances to Finals

April 5, 2007

The Maryland competitive cheer team advances to the NCA national championship finals after placing sixth in the preliminary round of competition. The Terps received a large deduction off their score due to a time violation. The deduction was for taking too much time after the cheer section of the routine.

"I feel comfortable with where the team stands after prelims," said head coach Jarnell Bonds. "If any team can rebound from this, it is my team. The girls are still confident that they can defend their title, because our skills are right up there with the top teams."

The All Girl I division finals are Friday at 4:35 p.m. at the Ocean Arena in Daytona Beach, Fla. The top eight teams from preliminaries advance to finals with only their crowd involvement score carrying over. Maryland will perform fifth in the finals.
