UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior Krista Pellizzi scored five goals and assisted on another as the No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse team defeated Ohio State, 19-12, in the first game of the ACC/ALC Challenge on April 6 at Holuba Hall. Pellizzi's five goals matched her career high and it is the fourth time this season she has reached that number.

Maryland got goals from 11 different scorers in the game which is the most this season. Junior Kelly Kasper recorded two goals and two assists as did senior Katie Doolittle. Kasper also secured a game-best eight draw controls. Junior Katie Princiotto and freshman Amanda Spinnenweber both scored twice while juniors Casey Magor and Dana Dobbie and senior Mollie Reese added a goal and an assist each.

Maryland peppered the Ohio State defense by taking 50 shots, the second most in a game this season. The Terrapins were strong on their free position chances, converting a season-best 5-of-8 attempts.

The Terrapins jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. Kasper, Pellizzi, Princiotto, and junior Lauren Cohen all scored in the stretch. The Buckeyes responded with two goals of their own at 16:00 and 14:20 to cut the lead in half, 4-2. Amanda Shimp scored her first of the day and Kendall Gysin converted a free position to cut into the deficit.

Maryland came back strong with four more goals to take an 8-2 lead with 5:26 left in the half, a lead that would prove to be too much. Doolittle and Pellizzi both started the run by scoring on free position opportunities. Pellizzi got another unassisted goal before Dobbie assisted on Kasper's second of the day to make it 8-2.

Ohio State scored two more goals thanks to Jessica Patane to trim the deficit to 8-4 with 1:22 left. Kristen Slahor and Kelly Haggerty assisted on Patane's two goals. Maryland got those two goals back before halftime from a pair of freshmen as Caitlyn McFadden and Spinnenweber both scored with under 15 seconds left in the half to give the Terps a 10-4 lead at the break.

Maryland continued to add to the cushion early in the second frame as a four goal streak that spanned 2:41 pushed the lead to 15-6 with 18:44 to go in the game. Pellizzi contributed two more goals in the run while Magor had a goal and an assist.

The Terps opened their largest lead of the game with 3:04 left in the game when Reese found Doolittle for a goal to make it 19-8. The Buckeyes did not let up, however, and scored the game's final four goals in just 2:10 to finish the scoring. Shimp scored twice during the run while Patane added another.

Ohio State (6-3) was led by Shimp and Patane who both scored four goals. Haggerty notched two goals and an assist while Slahor dished out three assists. Kristen Gilwee was credited with 14 saves in the losing effort.

Maryland (11-1) will conclude its weekend at Penn State when it takes on the No. 11 Nittany Lions on Sunday, April 8 at 3:00 p.m. at Holuba Hall.
