Men's Tennis Downed by No. 16 Duke, 7-0

DURHAM, N.C. - As the spring 2007 season draws close to the end, the No. 55 Maryland Terrapins men's tennis team find themselves with a record of 10-7, 2-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 7-0 loss to the No. 16 Duke Blue Devils (13-7, 6-2 ACC) today in Durham, N.C.
After the No. 5-ranked doubles pair of Joey Atas and David Goulet picked up an 8-3 doubles win over Maryland's Nicolas Frayssinoux and Scott Fink at the No. 1 position, the Terps came back when Boris Fetbroyt and Andrew Orban posted an 8-5 victory over Dylan Arnould and Ned Samuelson at No. 2.
Duke clinched the doubles point at the No. 3 spot when Kiril Dimitrov and Peter Rodrigues won 8-5 over Nickolai Nielsen and Louis-Xavier Lavallee.
With Duke ahead 1-0, the Blue Devils continued to dominate in singles play. With three nationally-ranked players in singles competition, the Terrapins struggled to pick up a win.
No. 48-ranked Dimitrov overcame Frayssinoux, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, while No. 69 Atas came in at the second spot and defeated Orban, 6-0, 6-3. Rodrigues, ranked No. 155 nationally, played at the third position and beat Nielsen, 6-1, 6-3.
Duke secured the win at No. 4 singles when Arnould posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Fink.
Maryland will look to bounce back tomorrow when the Terps take on the No. 5-ranked North Carolina Tar heels at noon in Chapel Hill. The match will take place at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
