Nine current and former University of Maryland football players participated in this past weekend's graduation ceremonies on campus.
PK Dan Ennis, TE Dan Gronkowski, QB Sam Hollenbach, LB Wesley Jefferson, DE Jermaine Lemons, RB Sammy Maldonado, WR Greg Powell, DB Christian Varner and DB Marcus Wimbush all received their degrees from the university.
Ennis, a history major, and Hollenbach, a mechanical engineering major, were both All-Atlantic Coast Conference performers last season, while Jefferson was the team's second-leading tackler.
A criminal justice major, Jefferson, who was a junior last season, is giving up his final year of eligibility to pursue a career as a Maryland state trooper. Wimbush also received his criminal justice degree and was the team's fourth-leading tackler in 2006.
Powell, a kinesiology major, was a reserve wide receiver and special teams player during his career.
Gronkowski, a senior this coming fall, finished his course work in three years and will pursue a master's degree in business beginning this fall.
Lemons, a family studies major, and Varner, a communications major, both have eligibility remaining and will pursuing post-graduate studies in the fall.
Maldonado, a family studies major, completed his eligibility in 2004.
The Terps who took part in commencement ceremonies over the weekend join seven players who graduated in December.
RB Josh Allen, RB T.D. Callahan, OL Stephon Heyer, LB David Holloway, RB J.P. Humber, P Adam Podlesh, and DB Josh Wilson received their degrees prior to the team's trip to the Champs Sports Bowl.
