COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Over the past several years, our Maryland women's soccer team has dedicated their efforts to being positive role models to children of all ages. We recently traveled into DC to spend time with kids at The Children's National Medical Center. We organized an arts and crafts event where the children decorated different ornaments with paint, markers, stickers and more. We also set up face-painting stations, which they absolutely loved! Before too long, the kids were the ones doing the painting and each of our faces were their canvas. It was awesome to see the smiles on all the children's faces. We laughed, played, danced and more with them. We helped teach them the basic steps in creating various arts and crafts.
The Maryland women's soccer team plans to continue to volunteer our time to young children. We strive to excel both on and off the field, and we hope to continue to dedicate our time to impacting the lives of young children.
This commitment has helped shape the culture of our team both on and off the field. We have set standards for our team which rise above and beyond the accomplishments embraced on the soccer field. Our involvement has enabled us to be positive forces in helping young children excel and overcome challenges. The time put into helping young children has represented the loyalty we have instilled in each other to be the best role models possible. Our program has always strived to commit to a standard of excellence and this commitment is the signature of our program. Volunteering in community work such as this has taught all of us how fortunate we are. We talk regularly as a team about keeping things in perspective and taking nothing for granted. This experience certainly reinforces that theme.
