COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Four student-athletes from the Maryland women's lacrosse team were named IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-Americans, announced today. Junior Dana Dobbie was placed on the first team while seniors Becky Clipp and Krista Pellizzi and junior Kelly Kasper were named to the second team.
Dobbie, a Tewaaraton finalist, is the first Terrapin to earn first team All-America honors since Acacia Walker in 2005. It is her first time being selected as an All-American. This is the second-consecutive season that both Clipp and Kasper have been named to the second team and Pellizzi earned third team accolades in 2006.
Dobbie was a force in every facet of the game in her first season in College Park after transferring from Ohio University. She led the team with 79 draw controls and 39 ground balls, was second with 53 goals and 69 points, and third with 24 caused turnovers. She also scored a team-high five game-winning goals.
Dobbie was also tabbed the 2007 ACC Player of the Year and a Honda Sports Award nominee this year. She is the 15th different student-athlete at Maryland to earn first team All-America honors.
Clipp, a 2007 co-captain, anchored the Maryland defense and was second on the team with 29 caused turnovers, third with 36 ground balls, and sixth with 20 draw controls. She sealed the win against No. 2 Duke back on March 3 when she drew a charge on the Blue Devils' last possession. She was later named the womenslax.com Player of the Week for her effort.
Pellizzi exploded this season for the Terps on the offensive end as she led the team with 55 goals and 76 points and was third with 21 assists. She also led Maryland with a .505 shooting percentage and 14 free position goals. Her 33 draw controls were second only to Dobbie. Pellizzi was a two-time ACC Player of the Week during the season.
Kasper contributed in every facet of the game in the midfield as she led the team with 31 caused turnovers, was second with 22 assists, and third with 48 points. She was also fifth on the team in draw controls (28), sixth in goals (26), and seventh in ground balls (24).
All 48 student-athletes named to the three All-America teams will be honored at an awards banquet on June 16 in King of Prussia, Pa.
