COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 5 Maryland women's lacrosse team earned the fifth seed in the 2007 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship, announced today. The Terrapins (15-3) will host No. 12 Yale (13-3) on Sunday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Ludwig Field.

The Terps earned one of eight at-large bids to this year's tournament and this will be their 18th consecutive appearance in the championship. The Terrapins have won the most national titles in women's lacrosse history with 10, including seven straight from 1995-2001.

Maryland heads into the postseason with one of the most potent offenses in the country. The Terps rank sixth in the nation in scoring offense (14.83) and are second in the NCAA in draw controls (14.83). Maryland also leads the ACC in shots (37.06), assists (8.00), and points (22.83) per game.

The Bulldogs will ride a nine-game winning streak into the NCAA tournament after starting the season 4-3. During that stretch, Yale has outscored its opponents 114-66. Its 13 wins tied the school record for victories in a regular season. The Bulldogs' only losses this season are to teams currently in the top 20 in No. 2 Penn, No. 13 Notre Dame, and No. 17 James Madison.

Yale will test the Maryland offense as it has one of the top ranked defenses in the country. The Bulldogs allow just 8.13 goals per game which is seventh in the NCAA and also force 10.69 turnovers per outing which is sixth.

Maryland and Yale have met just twice before in consecutive seasons in 1978 and 1979. The Terps won the first outing, 7-6, in overtime while Yale won the second, 6-5.

Tickets for Maryland's first NCAA tournament game at home since 2004 can be purchased through the Maryland ticket office at 1-800-462-TERP (8377). Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The winner of the first round game will face either Boston University or the fourth-seed Penn. The second round game is slated for Saturday, May 19 at the campus of the higher seed.
