Maryland head coach Brenda Frese
On tonight's game:
"I'm really proud of the intensity that we displayed tonight. I'm just very excited about the second half. I thought we had some critical stops at really key points in the game. It really came down to our defensive intensity and I thought our defense helped us to be able to execute on the offensive end. I thought we did a great job sharing the basketball, being unselfish and being able to get a solid win with some adversity in this game."
On team's intensity in the second half:
"That's what we've been talking about is having runs of our own on the defensive end and being able to build on it and have momentum. Defense is an attitude. It's a mentality. I'm just really excited to be able to see the focus. I thought we made great strides today and now the challenge is for us not to be satisfied, for us to be able to grow."
On how the team has improved since the loss at TCU:
"We're better and that's the most important thing. The big picture is that we get better every single day that we're on the floor. From the practice end this week, we got better and that's a direct correlation to the game tonight. We've got to stay in the now, stay in the process and good things are going to happen for this team."
Senior Kristi Toliver
On progress since first two games
"Today, we came out with a lot of energy and extremely motivated. The first game we did not perform so well, but this game we did better. Getting better is what we are going to continue to do, against UCLA, and for the rest of the season."
On playing against James Madison
"At JMU last year, I did not get the opportunity to play so I was really excited and looking forward to playing them this year. I think we played well and I am happy with the way things turned out this year."
On being assertive when the game is close
"When the game is close, that is the time to attack the rim. You have to credit the game plan in those cases and take advantage of the defense, whether that's shooting or finding someone else and distributing the ball."
Senior Marissa Coleman
On building a lead and going on a 14-0 run
"We just tried to get to the rim and execute on the free-throw line and once we did that, a lot of doors opened up for us."
Junior Demauria Liles
On fitting in on the team and fulfilling many offensive and defensive roles
"My teammates help me out with everything and their support means everything."
