Maryland head coach Brenda Frese
On today's game:
"I'm just really proud of this win. We obviously had to fight and battle, but going into this game I just thought UCLA had a tremendous amount of depth. I'm just really pleased to see that each and every game we're starting to put more things together. I thought we came out in the first half, especially, and had a lot of great intensity and it really started with our defense, the tone that we set, and I thought with our seniors. I thought they really came out and were in a terrific mindset and mentality. We wanted to come out on them early and we were able to set that tone in the first half."
On the team's slow offensive performance in the beginning of each half:
"They're obviously a tremendous defensive team and they like to throw some different looks. They were able to kind of junk us up in terms of their man and their zone until we could really get into a flow of what we wanted and that's what gave us some problems. But credit to staying patient and I think a lot of our turnovers now are on us. They're unforced turnovers. We're just trying to develop our chemistry and playing together because there are so many new players on this roster."
Freshman Lynetta Kizer
On her performance today:
"I just focused more on the rebounding aspect we went over in practice, like how many rebounds they average. I just came prepared to block out, block my man out and go for boards and good things happened. That was definitely what I focused on today."
Senior Kristi Toliver
On the team's game-by-game improvement:
"I think that now we've played four games and we're starting to get into a rhythm of things. I think earlier on with a whole new team, we just had to build our chemistry. I think now we're really building it and good things are starting to happen. I think everybody's getting good shots. I was really happy that everybody was really unselfish with the ball."
