Kristi Toliver scored 12 points and Lynetta Kizer had 10 for Maryland, but the Terrapins fell, 86-57, at Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Shavonte Zellous scored 20 of her 26 points in the second half to lead Pittsburgh (No. 24 AP) to the upset of Maryland (No. 11 ESPN/USA Today, No. 8 AP).
"This is the biggest win in our program's history," Pittsburgh coach Agnus Berenato told the crowd after the game.
Maryland (7-2) committed 22 turnovers in losing for the first time since a season-opening defeat at Texas Christian.
"Pitt just outworked, outhustled and outcompeted us for 40 minutes," Maryland coach Brenda Frese said. "All of the credit goes to Pitt. They did everything right. Everything we did was disappointing because we didn't compete."
Senior Marissa Coleman scored eight points, giving her 1,683 for her career. The Cheltenham, Md. native moved past Christy Winters (1,679) for fourth place on the Maryland all-time scoring list.
The Panthers handed Maryland its biggest loss since a 74-44 defeat to Duke on March 6, 2005.
"I just thought it was an awesome performance," Berenato said. "We were well prepared, and it showed. It was a great victory."
