The University of Maryland will open spring football practice Tuesday, as the Terps hold their first of 15 workouts over the course of the next five weeks.
The Terps will practice three times per week (each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday), concluding spring ball with the annual Red-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 26. The spring game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET at Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium. The game is the culmination of Maryland Day, a university-sponsored family celebration.
Maryland will also hold a scrimmage at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 in Byrd Stadium as part of Gridiron BashTM The Ultimate Fan CompetitionTM, a venture to combine spring football and live music on campuses around the country. Maryland is one of 16 universities participating in the event. Good Charlotte and O.A.R., local bands with national followings, will hold a concert at 7 p.m.
The scrimmage is free, while tickets for Gridiron Bash, priced at $37 can be purchased through Maryland Athletics by calling 1-800-IM-A-TERP or by clicking here.
The Red-White Spring Game and the Gridiron Bash scrimmage are open to the public, but the rest of the practice sessions are closed. Only members of the Maryland Gridiron Network and Terrapin Club, as well as Maryland students and players' parents, will be allowed to attend the workouts.
Maryland Coach Ralph Friedgen will kick off spring practice with a news conference at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Fans can click here to view the news conference.
The Terps return 46 letterwinners, including 14 starters (nine offense/five defense), from last year's squad which advanced to the team's fifth bowl game (Emerald Bowl) in the last seven years.

Gridiron Bash for Cash: The first-ever Gridiron BashTM has launched the text component of its Ultimate Fan CompetitionTM, enabling fans of the University of Maryland to text in votes and increase the chances that Maryland will split the $1.75 million being given to General Scholarship Funds. Votes can be placed by texting UM to 23909. The Gridiron BashTM fan competition - being billed as the USA TODAY Bash for Cash SeriesTM - will be based 70 percent on fan attendance at Gridiron BashTM events and 30 percent on text in votes. Daily school standings are being posted on www.gridironbash.com.
MGN Gala and Auction: The Maryland Gridiron Network Gala and Auction, presented by Acton Mobile Industries, is set for Saturday, May 3 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Bethesda, Md.
