COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 58 Maryland men's tennis team will close out its regular season this weekend when it plays host to two highly ranked ACC opponents, facing No. 12 Florida State Friday and No. 23 Miami Sunday.
The Terps (10-8, 2-7) received strong play from their junior co-captains last weekend, as Nickolai Nielsen led the team with a 3-1 record at singles and doubles combined, and Andrew Orban earned a win at singles in his first match back from an injury.
Orban and Boris Fetbroyt remain the No. 8-ranked doubles team, and Maryland freshman Amit Inbar still holds the title of the No. 79-ranked singles player in the latest ITA rankings.
Maryland's opponent Friday, Florida State (16-4, 7-2), has won four of its last five matches, with the only loss coming on the road against No.1 Virginia.
The Seminoles feature three ranked singles players in Jean Yves-Aubone (No. 29), Clint Bowles (No. 65), and Sam Chang (No. 71), as well as the No. 16-ranked doubles team of Yves-Aubone and Bowles.
Miami (11-6, 4-4) is coming off two consecutive ACC victories, with freshman Carl Sundberg leading the way by going undefeated on the path to being named ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
The Hurricanes are lead in the rankings by Daniel Vallverdu, the No. 5-ranked singles player, and the doubles teams of Sundberg and Vallverdu (No. 35), and Vivek Subramanian and David Rosenfeld (No. 36).
The Terps' weekend begins at 3 p.m. Friday when they play host to Florida State, and wraps up with the regular season finale, and the last home match for Maryland's lone senior, Michael Coleman, Sunday at 11 a.m. against Miami. Both matches will be held at the Tennis Center at College Park, on Paint Branch Avenue.
