DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Maryland competitive cheer team rallied to win its third consecutive NCA national title Friday afternoon in Daytona Beach, Fla. After landing in second place after the preliminary round Thursday, the Terps fought through their errors Friday to claim the crown.

The Terps finished with a final score of 8.91, while the team from Ohio State, who finished sixth after the preliminary round, rallied to land second with a score of 8.883. Louisville dropped from first place to third place with a score of 8.795. Kennesaw State scored 8.765 to finish in fourth, and North Carolina State finished rounded out the top five with a score of 8.760.

"Even though we still had some minor errors today, we made up for them with our difficulty points," said head coach Jarnell Bonds. "We were rewarded for our strengths."

"Our girls perform like champions when they are on the floor no matter what happens. We never let our mistakes show," said Bonds.

This is fourth year the Terps have been considered a varsity sport. Since then, they finished second in 2005 and claimed the title in 2006, 2007 and now 2008.
