Maryland's Kat Lyons Granted Release

April 18, 2008
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland women's basketball head coach Brenda Frese has announced that freshman Kat Lyons has been granted a release from the Terrapin program. She will complete her academic semester in May and will not return to the team in 2008-09.
"We always want our players to be happy and if that means they find it somewhere else, we will not stand in their way," said Frese, who completed her sixth season at the Maryland helm. "We wish Kat all the best in her future endeavors."
A 5-10 guard, Kat Lyons (Kernersville, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) played in 24 games and shot 60 percent from three-point range, making 15-of-25 shots. She averaged 2.1 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. She scored a career-high nine points in back-to-back games against UMBC and at Wake Forest, going 3-for-3 from behind the arc in both contests.
