April 6, 2008
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Senior Dana Dobbie filled the stat sheet with six goals, two assists, 10 draw controls, and four ground balls as the No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse team overpowered Ohio State, 21-6, on April 4 at Fetzer Field. Classmate Kelly Kasper added three goals and a pair of assists in the win.
Five of Dobbie's six goals came in the first half and her 10 draw controls were more than the entire Buckeyes team. It was the fourth time she has picked up more draws than the entire opposition and it was her second-straight game with 10 draw controls.
Junior Kate Faas scored four goals and senior Lauren Cohen chipped in with a hat trick. Senior Allie Buote was credited with seven saves in goal in 49 minutes of work.
Maryland jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first half. Dobbie scored the first goal of the game on a feed from classmate Katie Princiotto 1:36 in and then Kasper converted a free position a minute later to give the Terps a 2-0 lead.
Senior Casey Magor used a pass from Dobbie for the third goal and Kasper used a low shot to end the game-opening four goal run.
Ohio State cut the deficit in half with a pair of goals two minutes apart. Maghan Beaudrault connected on a free position chance for the Buckeyes first score and then Jessica Patane and Kristen Slahor used a give-and-go for the second goal with 18:04 left in the half.
The Terps then went on a 10-1 run to end the half and build an insurmountable 14-3 lead. Dobbie scored four of her goals during that span.
Maryland took 20 shots in the first half and allowed the Buckeyes just five. It tied the fewest shots for an opponent in a half this season as the Terps allowed just five in the first half in the season opener at Massachusetts.
The Terps continued to dominate in the second half as they scored the first five goals to extend their lead to 19-3. Faas scored two of the goals in that span. Ohio State went scoreless in the half until it finally scored with 6:14 left in the game.
Ohio State (7-5) was led by Slahor who had three assists while Patane scored twice.
Maryland (11-1) will head back to Chapel Hill on Saturday, April 12 to take on No. 10 North Carolina at 7:00 p.m. at Fetzer Field.
