Holliday to Hold Celebrity Golf Tournament

ROCKVILLE, Md. - Johnny Holliday, who has been the radio voice of the Maryland Terrapins for 30 years, will serve as host for the second annual Johnny Holliday Scholarship Classic sponsored by Stein Mitchell & Mezines.

The golf tournament will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Norbeck Country Club, which is located at 17200 Cashell Rd. in Rockville, Md.

Proceeds from the event support the Johnny Holliday Scholarship Fund at the University of Maryland and children who attend Youth Leadership Foundation (YLF) academic and character building programs.

The Youth Leadership Foundation (YLF) is a unique program comprised of the Tenley Achievement Program (TAP) for boys and the Program for Academic Leadership and Skills (PALS) for girls. YLF assists those students rarely singled out for improvement: 8-15 year olds who are simply "passing" - the largest group of children at-risk by their sheer numbers.

Event Highlights include:
- Live Broadcast of Sports Talk 980 AM Doc Walker Show from 9 to 11 a.m.
- Players Include: Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams, Maryland football coach Ralph Friedgen, Comcast's "Chick" Hernandez, Sports Talk 980's Ric "Doc" Walker, Fox5 Sports Anchor Dave Feldman, former All-Star Orioles catcher Rick Dempsey and many others.

The Youth Leadership Foundation (YLF) founded in 1997, serves disadvantaged youth from Washington's inner city by boosting academic performance while developing individual character and achievement. Board Members and supporters include former MPD Chief Charles Ramsey, School Board VP Carolyn Graham, nationally syndicated journalist Robert Novak, recently retired former Chief Judge of the DC Superior Court Eugene N. Hamilton, and visits from people such as Emmy Award winning anchor Leon Harris, Coach Jim Larranaga, and best selling author Anne Crittenden.
