Six Terps Earn All-Region Accolades

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's lacrosse team led the way with four selections to the IWLCA All-South Region First Team and six honorees altogether. The four first team recipients tied for the most with Virginia while North Carolina and Georgetown were the only other teams to have six student-athletes honored.
Leading the way with first team selections were seniors Lauren Cohen, Dana Dobbie, Kelly Kasper, and sophomore Caitlyn McFadden. Seniors Allie Buote and Katie Pumphrey were voted to the second team.
Cohen was one of the most consistent attackers for the Terps this season as she was second on the team with 49 goals and her 59 points were third. She scored a goal in all 21 games with eight hat tricks and multiple tallies in 17 contests. She ranked sixth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in goals per game (2.45) and 10th in points per game (2.95).
The Farmingdale, N.Y., product was also fifth on the team in draw controls (22) and caused turnovers (15) and sixth in ground balls (19). Cohen was an All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament team selection.
Dobbie, a 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy finalist and the 2008 ACC Player of the Year, leads the country this season in draw controls with 126 which is a new NCAA single-season record and she averages 6.00 per outing.
The Guelph, Ontario product leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in goals (70), goals per game (3.33), and draw controls. She is also second in points per game (4.00) behind Kasper. Her goals and goals per game numbers rank fifth and 15th in the country, respectively.
Dobbie accumulated 334 draw controls in her four years which is also an NCAA record. Her 70 goals this season is the sixth-most ever in a single season at Maryland. She also led the team with 32 caused turnovers and was third with 33 ground balls. She had 15 hat tricks to her name this year in 21 games and had eight games with eight or more draw controls.
Kasper, already a two-time All-American and a finalist along with Dobbie for the Tewaaraton, led the Terps with 87 points on 43 goals and 44 assists. Her 44 assists this year rank fifth all-time at Maryland in a single season. She was also second on the team with 52 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers. Kasper had 13 games with multiple assists this season.
She leads the ACC in assists (44), assists per game (2.10), points (87), and points per game (4.14). Her assists and assists per game numbers rank fifth and 10th in the nation, respectively, while her points total ranks ninth.
Kasper ranks fifth all-time at Maryland with 102 career assists and seventh with 244 points.
McFadden ranked second on the team with 27 assists and added 27 goals for 54 points which ranked fourth on the squad. The Phoenix, Md., native scored a point in 20 of the 21 games for Maryland while recording 10 games with three or more points.
McFadden also ranked third on the team in draw controls (30), fourth in ground balls (31), and sixth in caused turnovers (13). She ranked fourth in the ACC in assists per game (1.29) and was an all-conference selection.
Buote's finest season in the cage came this past year as her goals against average of 7.55 ranks second in the ACC and fifth nationally. In addition, her .483 save percentage ranks second in the conference and 15th in the country.
The Annapolis product recorded five games with 10 or more saves and was awarded ACC Player of the Week honors twice. No other goalie in the conference earned the award.
Pumphrey captained a stellar Maryland defense this season that ranked second in the ACC and fifth nationally in scoring defense with a 7.83 per game average. She was the Terps' top defender and was matched up with the opponent's best attacker while also being a vital part to the dynamic transition offense.
The Severna Park native ranked second on the team with 34 ground balls and third with 20 caused turnovers. The All-ACC honoree also added a pair of goals and an assist.
All of the 128 student-athletes named to the first and second teams are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams which will be announced on May 29. All-Americans will be honored at an awards banquet on June 14 in Downington, Pa.
