Maryland head coach Brenda Frese
On Maryland's overall play:
"I told them in the locker room after the game I would like to bottle up the second half. It says a lot about the character of the team to be able to come off of the stretch that we just had, a week on the road and to be able to come out and play with that kind of energy and intensity. The exciting thing is that we should be able to match that game in and out. Again, I just thought our defense is really what got us going in terms of transition and spreading the floor and being unselfish in our play, looking for our teammates and really giving them easy looks in the flow of our offense. It was just a dominant stretch for our team to play so unselfishly."
On Anjale Barrett's play:
"It's great to be able to see Anjale playing with so much confidence. She really shot the ball extremely well from the 3-point line and then with her ability to be able to attack to the rim."
Senior Kristi Toliver
On 3-point shooting:
"I just went out and did whatever it took to help us win. I didn't try to force a lot of things. I think we played really unselfishly on the offensive end. Sharing the ball and making the extra pass made it easier for everyone to get open looks. It's a credit to my teammates to make the extra pass and find me because we have so many offensive threats, you can't just focus on one person because everybody was knocking down shots. I was open a lot of times, but it is just because my teammates were finding me."
Senior Marissa Coleman
On Kristi Toliver's shooting:
"I think we are used to it. It is not surprising to us any more. She is a great shooter. The best shooter in the country, so when she knocks down a couple you just have to find a way to get her the ball again because you know when she gets hot, there is nobody that can stop her. We are used to it. It might surprise you guys, but it's like 'Alright, she's going to make it.'" There was one point where I got yelled at by one of the assistants for not rebounding because I threw my hands up because I knew it was going in. There was no need to exert that energy when I knew it was going in."
Virginia Tech head coach Beth Dunkenberger
Opening Statement:
"Well I think we have to give credit to Maryland, they were a very high-powered offensive team, which we knew going into the game. I thought that Kristi Toliver and Marissa Coleman took it to another level tonight, they played like all-Americans, and really, we didn't have an answer for it. From a Virginia Tech standpoint, I thought we put together one of our best defensive efforts against No. 4 Duke less than 48 hours ago and we turned around today, and while our defensive game definitely was a step off, we finally got our offensive game clicking a little bit. I really think that our team is starting to figure things out and if we can put together a defensive effort like we had against Duke and an offensive effort like we had against Maryland, I think we'll have a nice team here."
