Maryland Defeats Catholic in Final Exhibition

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Tianna Hawkins and Jackie Nared both finished the evening with double-doubles for the Terrapins as the Maryland women's basketball team defeated Catholic, 101-43, in the exhibition season finale Tuesday evening at Comcast Center.

Hawkins scored 12 points and had 11 rebounds. Tonight's performance was her second double-double in a Maryland uniform, as she finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds last week against Bowie State. Nared also added 12 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.

Four other Maryland players finished in double figures against the Cardinals. Diandra Tchatchouang led all players with 16 points in 21 minutes, making six of nine field goals. Lori Bjork was 4-for-8 from outside the arc, giving her 14 points. Dara Taylor led the Terrapins in assists with seven and added 14 points of her own. Kim Rodgers scored 10.

Maryland jumped out to an early advantage led by Tchatchouang's lay-up 3:15 into the first half. With their lead quickly growing, the Terrapins were ahead 34-13 with seven minutes remaining in the first half. By halftime, Maryland led 57-19.

The Terps outscored the Cardinals by 20 in the second half, 44-24, to finalize the score at 101-43. Maryland shot 49.4 percent for the game to the Cardinals' 26.2. Catholic's Kelly Ryan led the Cardinals with 11 points. The rebounding difference was 66-28 in Maryland's favor.

Maryland will open its regular season Saturday at 7 p.m. against North Carolina Central.
