COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland competitive cheer team will head north to Philadelphia Saturday evening to compete in Jamfest's Liberty Jam event. The Terrapins will be competing in the All-Girl 1 Cheer division and are scheduled to take the performance floor at 8:05 p.m. Awards are scheduled for 8:45 p.m.
This marks the Terps' last competition before heading to Daytona for NCA Nationals in the beginning of April. They will spend the last few weeks of March preparing specifically for Nationals. Senior P.J. Gill is one of six seniors to have already won three titles in three years.
"I'm nervous because I've never felt losing and I've never come home without a title," said Gill, "but I have complete confidence in our team."
She explained how much the girls practice for that one shot on the floor at Nationals. "We practice so much everyday for one 2:30 routine."
Gill is coming off of a knee injury that sidelined her for last year's campaign. She was forced to cheer her teammates on, rather than compete. "It was really, really hard. You just wish you could be out there because you could contribute so much."
Without a doubt, Gill is ready for a chance in her senior year to contribute all she can.
