COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 69 Maryland men's tennis team played another strong match against a ranked ACC opponent, but still wound up on the wrong end of a lop-sided score as the Terps fell to No. 42 N.C. State, 7-0.

The Terps (7-7, 1-4) lost the doubles point, but still had a chance to win with four singles matches left on the courts, but eventually N.C. State (9-7, 3-1) put its foot down and left the Terps winless on the day.

David Kwon played a strong match at number one singles, taking both sets to a tie-breaker against No. 65-ranked Jay Weinacker. The Maryland junior went back and forth with Weinacker in the first set until the score reached 6-6, and the momentum swings continued. Weinacker outlasted Kwon in the first set tie-break, winning the break 9-7.

In the second set, Kwon held a strong 5-2 lead, but the N.C. State senior lived up to his ranking, battling back to force another tie-breaker. Weinacker won this breaker also, and the match, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (1).

Maryland's Andrew Orban played a tie-breaker of his own, this one coming in the third set of his match against No. 96-ranked Christian Welte. The pair traded lop-sided sets with Welte winning the first 6-2, and Orban winning the second 6-1, but both players were strong in the third set.

In the third set Orban fell behind in a big way, trailing 5-2. But the senior battled back to draw even at 5-5 before the match eventually reached 6-6. Orban took an early 3-1 lead in the tie-breaker, but in the end was beaten by Welte, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (3).

Senior Boris Fetbroyt looked poised for a win early in his match with the Wolf Pack's Julian Sullivan, taking the first set 6-4. But Sullivan took control in the second set, going on to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Terrapin Nickolai Nielsen played a close match at number three singles with Jaime Pulgar, breaking the Spanish player to take a 5-4 first set lead. The N.C. State freshman came back strong though, taking the next three games to win the first set before jumping out to a big lead to take the second set and the match, 7-5, 6-4.

The Terps will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Tobacco Road to face No. 34 North Carolina on Firday, and No. 28 Duke on Saturday.
