Maryland's Rally Falls Short Against Duke

DURHAM, N.C. - One day after being shut out by No. 40 North Carolina, the Maryland men's tennis team nearly rebounded with one of its best wins of the season, but the 30th-ranked Duke Blue Devils held off the 75th-ranked Terps, 5-2, Saturday in a match delayed by rain.
Up 3-2, the Blue Devils (11-5, 4-2) captured the final two singles matches, though the Terps had chances in each one.
Duke's Luke Marchese had to rally from a set down in No. 5 singles to defeat freshman Mathias Sarrazin 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. That victory clinched the team win.
In No. 6 singles, Maryland's Roshan Potarazu was down a set to David Holland, but rallied to tie the match before falling 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Seniors Nickolai Nielsen and Boris Fetbroyt each had singles wins for the Terps (7-9, 1-6).
Fetbroyt's 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, victory over Alain Michel at No. 4 singles put Maryland on the scoreboard and Nielsen's 7-6, 6-3 win over Jared Pinsky at No. 3 singles cut the Blue Devils' advantage to 3-2.
Most of the singles action was moved from Duke's outdoor facility to the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center due to rain.
The Terps play their final two home matches of the season next weekend. They play host to Georgia Tech at 3 p.m. Friday and Clemson at 11 a.m. Sunday.
