Marissa Coleman's Record-Breaking Sweet 16 Performance by the Numbers:

Coleman vs Vanderbilt: 42 pts on 15-of-27 FG (2-5 3-pt FG), 10-for-11 FT, 15 rebounds, two assists in 40 minutes

  • Her 42 points is a new school record and the first 40-point game in school history (prev. record 39 points by three different players, most recently by former teammate Shay Doron at Florida State on Jan. 16, 2005).
  • Forty-two points is most in Sweet 16 history (passing Jackie Stiles' 41 pts vs. Duke in 2001), second-most in the regional round and the fifth-most overall in NCAA Tournament history (Drake's Lorri Bauman holds the tournament record with 50 pts vs. Maryland in the 1982 West Regional Final).
  • Her 15 field goals are tied for fifth-most in regional round history (most in Maryland NCAA Tournament history) and her 27 field goal attempts are tied for ninth-most in regional history (second-most in Maryland NCAA Tournament history).
  • She pulled down 15 rebounds, tied for the fifth-highest total in school NCAA Tournament history, a game after tying the school-record for rebounds in an NCAA game with 18 vs. Utah (career-high). She owns four of Maryland's top-eight single-game rebound marks in NCAA Tournament annals, with the other two also coming in back-to-back games in the 2006 Final Four (14 apiece in the national semifinals vs North Carolina and in the national finals vs Duke).
  • Coleman's 42 points and 15 rebounds marked her team-high 10th double-double of the season and her 38th career double-double - the most among active ACC players.
  • Coleman's 10 free throws made and 11 free throws attempted are tied for second-most in Terps' NCAA Tournament history while also marking her fourth game this season with 10 or more free throws made in a game. Her 90.9 percent clip from the line is tied for sixth-best in Maryland NCAA Tournament history (min. 7 attempts).
  • In just three games in the 2009 NCAA Tournament, Coleman has hauled in 46 rebounds (fourth most in a single NCAA Tournament in school history) for a 15.3 average per game (No. 1 in school single-tournament history).
  • Coleman entered the regional semifinal contest vs. Vanderbilt tied with Crystal Langhorne for the most career rebounds in school NCAA Tournament history; she now owns a school-record 148 career rebounds in NCAA play. Her 9.9 career rebound average in NCAA play is a new Terrapin record.
  • Coleman jumped into fourth place on the Maryland single-season free throws made list (147) and into seventh place on the free throws attempted (184) list.

    Toliver's Day Vs. Vandy

  • Toliver went 3-for-9 from 3-point range vs. Vanderbilt, with both her makes and attempts from beyond the arc tied for the second-most in Maryland NCAA Tournament history.
  • Her 32 career 3-pointers made in NCAA play are now 18 more than second place Shay Doron (2004-07) and Coleman with 14 apiece. Toliver is 32-for-102 (31.4 percent) from beyond the arc in NCAA Tournament action.
  • Toliver netted 17 pts vs. Vanderbilt, her 12th double-digit scoring game in 15 career NCAA Tournament games, after netting just eight points against the Commodores in the 2008 Sweet 16.
  • She has made at least one 3-pointer in 14 of 15 career NCAA Tournament games. Her lone game without a trey came in last year's Sweet 16 vs. Vanderbilt.
  • Toliver did not attempt a free throw vs. Vanderbilt, just the fourth time in 15 career NCAA Tournament games that she did not make it to the free-throw line. For her career, she is 31-for-33 from the line for a 93.9 percent success rate, second-highest in NCAA Tournament history.

    Coleman and Toliver Collectively

  • Coleman and Toliver each played in their 15th career NCAA Tournament game Saturday vs. Vanderbilt to pass former teammates Crystal Langhorne and Ashleigh Newman for first in school history. Coleman started in all 15 games to pass Langhorne for most NCAA Tournament starts in school annals.
  • The pair has logged 517 minutes in NCAA play for their careers (school record).
  • Coleman (2,187 pts) and Toliver (2,064) are the first pair of teammates in Atlantic Coast Conference history to play together while each reached the 2,000-point plateau. Coleman trails Langhorne by just 60 points with potentially three games remaining in her collegiate career. She would need to average 20 points per game to catch her former teammate to become the all-time leading scorer in Maryland history.
  • Toliver's 16 field goal attempts moved her up to fourth place in Maryland single-season history with 475 attempts from the floor. Coleman's 27 attempts bumped her total this season to 468, fifth-most in school single-season history.
  • Thanks in part to her 42-point outing vs. Vanderbilt, Coleman now has 635 pts this season - the third-highest total in school single-season history. Toliver moved into a fifth-place tie in the category (with her own total from last season) with 631 points in one season.

    Other Terp NCAA Notes

  • Redshirt freshman Kim Rodgers posted a career-high 12 rebounds, three times her previous career-best of four rebounds. In fact, Rodgers had just 17 rebounds for the entire season prior to Saturday's game versus Vanderbilt.
  • Maryland posted just one steal vs. Vanderbilt, tied for the lowest single-game total in NCAA Tournament team history.
  • Vanderbilt's 28 3-point attempts tied for the opponent-high in Maryland's NCAA Tournament history.
  • Vanderbilt scored 26 points off of 13 Maryland turnovers for a 26-4 edge in points off turnovers.
