Terps Open ACC Tournament Facing No. 27 Virginia Tech

April 15, 2009
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terps will begin play in the 2009 ACC Men's Tennis Championship Thursday in Cary, N.C. when they face No. 27 Virginia Tech in the first round.
Eleventh seeded Maryland last played the sixth seeded Hokies March 1 in a 5-2 loss at home to Virginia Tech. The Terps won the doubles point in that match, and played tough at singles earning a win from David Kwon, and close losses by Andrew Orban and Mathias Sarrazin.
Since their last meeting, the Hokies have gone 6-4 with three wins over teams ranked in the top-40 nationally. The Hokies feature two ranked singles players in No. 57-ranked Yoann Re and No. 92-ranked Nicolas Delgado.
The Terps have shown over the past month that they have the talent to compete against ACC foes during a series of hard-fought and tight losses in conference. If Maryland can come together and earn a win they are capable of getting against Virginia Tech, then the team will face number three seeded Wake Forest-- another team the Terps played hard in the regular season.
The match with Virginia Tech will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, as the Terps look to keep the season alive in their quest for the NCAA Tournament.
