AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Maryland senior Kristi Toliver will be one of eight contestants to participate in the 21st Annual State Farm College Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Thursday in conjunction with the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four. The 3-point shooting contest featuring the Terrapins' third all-time leading scorer will air at 9 p.m. on ESPN.
Toliver, whose 300 career 3-pointers rank first in school history and third in Atlantic Coast Conference annals, will compete against fellow ACC rival Abby Waner (Duke) as well as Melissa Liebschwager (Furman), Kristi Smith (Iowa), Karee Houlette (Georgetown), Angel Chan (Central Michigan), Heather Ezell (Iowa State) and Briann January (Arizona State).
The Harrisonburg, Va., native was named an Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers Association First Team All-American earlier this week. This past season Toliver connected on 41.6 percent of her 3-point attempts (91-for-219) and owns a 40.8 percent clip from beyond the arc in her career.
Toliver tied a school record on Jan. 18, 2009, when she drilled eight 3-pointers in a Terrapin victory over Virginia Tech. She went 8-for-10 against the Hokies to lead Maryland to one of its 12 ACC wins this season en route to the league's regular season and tournament titles.
A long-range threat her entire career, Toliver's most famous trey came in the 2006 national title game versus Waner's Blue Devils when she nailed a 3-pointer in the waning moments of regulation to force overtime - where the Terps would go on to claim their first national championship.
Toliver concluded her illustrious collegiate career with 2,078 career points - 900 of which came from 3-point range.
