Terps Men's Tennis to Play in Final Home Matches of 2009

April 3, 2009
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's tennis team will play in its final homestand of the season this weekend, as it plays host to No. 46 Georgia Tech and No. 68 Clemson.
The Terps are coming off a tough loss to No. 25 Duke. Maryland fell behind early, losing the doubles point and two singles matches before seniors Nickolai Nielsen and Boris Fetbroyt won their matches. The rally fell short as the Terps lost, 5-2.
Maryland is looking to repeat the success it had last year against Clemson when the team defeated the Tigers, 4-3. Last year's win was the Terps' first victory over Clemson in 31 years.
Georgia Tech features the No. 16-ranked singles player in the nation in sophomore Guillermo Gomez, as well as the No. 42-ranked doubles team of Gomez and Ryan Smith.
Clemson junior Carlos Alvarez is also in the rankings as the No. 115-ranked singles player.
This weekend's matches will be the final home matches for Maryland seniors Nickolai Nielsen, Andrew Orban and Boris Fetbroyt, who will celebrate senior day Sunday against Clemson.
The Terps will face Georgia Tech Friday at 3 p.m., and will then play host to Clemson Sunday at 11 a.m. Both matches will be played at the Tennis Center at College Park.
