The Maryland competitive cheer team celebrated its 2008-09 season with an annual banquet held earlier this month. The Terps were named champions at Cheersport nationals in February and earned a fifth-consecutive top-two finish at NCA Nationals in April.
Team awards were given to members of the team. Freshman Lindsey Kaufmann was awarded the Most Improved award for her hard work put in over the year. Sophomore Samantha Ford was named the Unsung Hero of the squad for her unrecognized effort throughout the season. Juniors Joanna Venezia and Lauren Louis both accepted the Teammate of the Year award, and freshman Ally Martell earned Rookie of the Year. Sophomore Samantha Johnson was named MVP of the Terrapin team and senior Meredith Cooper was given the Terrapin Award.
A new award was given at this year's banquet. Sophomore Megan Salvatore earned the Excellence Award, an honor decided on by members of the athletic department to an athlete that showed "The E-Factor" - Excellence, Everyday, by Everyone, in Everything
she does.
