Terps Assistant Daron Park Departs Position for La. Tech

May 29, 2009

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Daron Park, women's basketball assistant coach at the University of Maryland the past two seasons, has chosen to leave his position to assume associate head coach duties at Louisiana Tech University, head coach Brenda Frese announced today.

"I thank Daron for his service at the University of Maryland and wish him the best of luck as he takes this next step in his coaching career," Frese said. "I also want to thank his wife, Laura, and children, Rylee and Dillon, for their time in College Park. They will always be a part of our Maryland family."

Park was an assistant at Utah for three seasons prior to his stint at Maryland.

"The opportunity to coach and work with such talented and special student-athletes during my tenure at Maryland is something that I will cherish forever," Park said. "I would like to thank Coach Frese, (Athletics Director) Yow and (President) Mote for the opportunity to represent the athletic department and university the past two years."

The Terrapins, 31-5 last season, finished No. 3 in the final Associated Press poll of 2009. They captured the school's first Atlantic Coast Conference regular season and tournament titles in 20 years en route to their third Elite Eight appearance in four years. A highly-touted recruiting class, rated in the top-20 in the country, will join, among others, ACC Rookie of the Year Lynetta Kizer next season.
