Team Records and Series Notes

         Maryland improves to 13-3 and 1-1 in the conference, while Virginia falls to 11-5 overall and 0-2 in the ACC. This was the Terrapins’ first over a ranked opponent this season.

         Virginia owns a 30-42 series advantage over Maryland. The Terps have only defeated the Cavaliers six times in Charlottesville. Maryland last defeated UVA 94-78 in College Park last year.

         Maryland has won eight of the last nine games against the Cavaliers.  

         The Terrapins return home to Comcast Center to host Boston College Thursday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. ET.  Maryland looks to continue its program record home game winning streak. The Terps have won all 11 home games this season and 47 straight stretching all the way back to 2007.

 

Team Game Notes

         Line-up: Dara Taylor, Lynetta Kizer, Tianna Hawkins, Lori Bjork, Diandra Tchatchouang. This lineup is a first for the Terrapins and is now 1-0.

         Three Terrapins, Dara Taylor, Lori Bjork and Diandra Tchatchouang, scored in double-figure points. This is the 15th time Maryland has registered two or more players in double-digits.

         The Terrapins hit four three-pointers in the first half.

         Maryland outrebounded the Cavaliers XX-XX. The Terps have outrebounded all but three opponents this season.

 

 

Individual Game Notes

         Sophomore Lynetta Kizer posted her 13th career double-double (fourth on the season) with 19 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. She 7-for-12 from the field and hit 5-of-6 foul shots. 11 of her rebounds were defensive.

         Senior Lori Bjork posted 20 points against UVA, including five three-pointers, which is also a season high.  She was 7-for-12 from the field as well and was 6-for-10 from outside the arc. Before Monday’s game, she had not taken more than nine three’s in a game this year.

         Freshman guard Dara Taylor claimed her first career double-double in Monday’s win with 10 points, 11 assists, four rebounds and three steals.

         Freshman forward Tianna Hawkins pulled down 13 rebounds in her 35 minutes in just her fifth career start. Ten were defensive boards. She added five points on 2-for-4 shooting from the field and she went 1-for-2 from the charity stripe.
