Team Records and Series Notes
Maryland falls to 15-3 and 2-2 in the conference, while North Carolina improves to 14-3 overall and 2-1 in the ACC.
Maryland is now 30-36 all-time against UNC. They had won both contests last year, once at home and again in the ACC Tournament but the Terrapins have not defeated the Tar Heels in Carmichael Auditorium since 2006 when they defeated North Carolina in overtime, 98-95, on April 2.
Head Coach
Brenda Frese is three wins away from her 250th career win (247-94) and 10 wins away from her 200th with the Maryland Terrapins (190-64). She will have reached 200 wins faster than any other Maryland women's basketball coach.
The Terrapins return home to Comcast Center to host Miami Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. ET. Maryland looks to continue its program record home game winning streak. The Terps have won all 12 home games this season and 48 straight stretching all the way back to 2007.
Team Game Notes
Line-up: Dara Taylor, Lynetta Kizer, Anjale Barrett, Lori Bjork, Diandra Tchatchouang. This lineup falls to 3-1.
Senior Lori Bjork and sophomore Kim Rodgers hit 18 and 11 points, respectively. The Terrapins are 14-3 when two or more players record double-figure points.
Maryland held UNC to 33.3 percent shooting in the first half (13-of-39).
Maryland had six blocked shots, the second highest this season. Four blocks came from freshman Diandra Tchatchouang.
The Terrapins attempted 28 shots from outside the arc, a season high. They connected on seven of those, the second most this season. Senior Lori Bjork had four and sophomore Kim Rodgers had three.
Maryland held North Carolina to only three-point shots, the second lowest for an opponent this season. The Terps also held Minnesota and North Carolina Central to three treys.
The Terps have outrebounded their opponent in all but two games. Maryland pulled down 46 boards to UNC's 45. The Terrapins rank No. 2 in the league in rebounding margin (+11.2).
Individual Game Notes
Senior guard Lori Bjork had a game-high 18 points. This was the seventh consecutive time she has tallied 10 or more points. Bjork has also hit four or more three-pointers in the last three games.
Sophomore guard Kim Rodgers hit a season-high tying three treys and grabbed a season-high nine boards in her return to the hard court. She also hit both her free throws. Rodgers has hit 14 consecutive free throws since November and leads the ACC in free throw percentage (.871).
Rodgers is coming back from a four game hiatus after suffering a minor break in her left hand during the UNC-Wilmington game at the end of December.
Freshman guard Dara Taylor earned her 100th career assist and dished out six against UNC. Taylor leads all freshmen in the league in assists and ranks No. 8 in number of assists by a freshman at Maryland (105).
Freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang grabbed eight rebounds and added four blocks.
