RV/RV Maryland vs. Saint Joseph’s
Sunday, January 3, 2010
College Park, Md. (Comcast Center)
FINAL SCORE: RV/RV Maryland 79, Saint Joseph’s 69
Head Coach Brenda Frese
Opening Remarks:
“I just thought, like I just told the team, we had tremendous poise and composure down the stretch, especially against such a great, hard-working team like St. Joe’s, and I’m proud of the fact that we had a lot of players spark us, give us energy, especially down the stretch, taking care of the basketball, valuing it, I thought we were able to make a lot of plays on the offensive end of the floor.”
On if she thought the game was won when the team was up by 16 points:
“Unfortunately no, not with this team. I think those are the teachable moments that we’ve got to get better. Those back-to-back threes I thought really hurt us and St. Joe’s got some great looks, they started really shooting the ball from the perimeters, so at that point they made it a game. We had watched enough film on St. Joe’s to know that they were going to compete that hard for forty minutes.”
On the three-point game:
“I thought we were making the extra pass today, so just unselfish play, moving the basketball so I thought our guards were able to get in good position in terms of being shot-ready, so I thought making the extra pass was a big difference for us.”
On the play of Anjale Barrett:
“I’m really proud of Anj [Barret]. I guess the challenge I have for Anj is- that’s how special she is and how she should play every game. She’s been through the wars, and we had a nice little talk yesterday, just because she’s been in the ACC tournament, she’s been in the NCAA tournament, just seeing the confidence that she played with tonight, really then gave confidence to every player on this roster. I view Anj as a junior. She may not be, but I view her as a junior and those are the kinds of special plays that we need her to make.”
Sophomore guard Anjale Barrett
On her role:
“I just want to bring as much energy as I can, lead the team and do whatever I can whether it be offense or defense, just communicating, giving everyone confidence, not only myself but the whole team.”
On how to be consistent:
“I think I just need to keep being aggressive. My coaches and my teammates keep putting in my head, ‘keep being aggressive’ and they keep giving me a lot of confidence. So I am feeding off the energy from our team.”
On getting into ACC play:
“I am really excited. In practice we are getting better and better every day. When we go down to N.C. State, we know it is going to be a tough environment. So we know we have to stick together, keep working hard, keep instilling confidence in each other and keep playing together.”
Freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang
On maintaining composure:
“We tried to stay focused on defense and stop them because we knew that they had a lot of shooters. We tried to be on the catch to stop them.”
