#21 Maryland Falls At #13 Georgetown, 53-45

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Maryland women's basketball team fell at No. 13 Georgetown 53-45 Tuesday night in the first meeting between the two teams since 2003. Freshman Alicia DeVaughn and junior Lynetta Kizer led the 21st-ranked Terrapins with double-doubles.

Kizer and DeVaughn finished with 10 points each, with Kizer tying her career-high 16 rebounds. DeVaughn grabbed 11 rebounds in her 18 minutes off the bench. Freshman Alyssa Thomas pulled down 10 boards as well.

The Terrapins outrebounded the Hoyas 63-44. The Terps' grabbed 28 offensive rebounds to Georgetown's 15. Maryland shot 75 percent from the free throw line, but 29 turnovers hurt the Terrapins down the stretch.

In the first half, Maryland took as much as nine point lead with nine minutes remaining behind Kizer's 12 boards. Georgetown's Sugar Rodgers tied it up with a layup with 3:23 left. Rodgers hit a three with one second remaining to give the Hoyas' a 26-23 lead at the break.

Coming out of the half, Georgetown took its lead up to 12. Down the stretch, the Terps made nine of 11 free throws to take a 45-43 lead with just under two minutes remaining. The Hoyas hit two three pointers to take back the lead for good.
