GREENVILLE, N.C. -
The 23rd-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (4-1) beat East Carolina (2-3) 76-60 Friday night in the Eighth Annual East Carolina Thanksgiving Tournament. Sophomore Diandra Tchatchouang led the Terps with her first career double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Tchatchouang shot 4-of-6 from the field and was 5-for-7 at the line. Junior Lynetta Kizer led all scorers with 16 points, as she was 5-for-11 and shot 60 percent at the free throw line. Freshman Alyssa Thomas scored 14, 12 coming in the second half.
Freshman Alicia DeVaughn led the Terrapins on the glass with 16 boards on the night, as Maryland outrebounded ECU 58-31. The Terps have controlled the glass in every game this year.
Sophomore Dara Taylor led with five assists, while Thomas and junior Anjale Barrett each dished four.
After trailing 3-0 early on, Kizer jumpstarted the Terrapin offense with a layup and a made free throw to tie it up. Another layup gave the Terps the lead for good. Maryland led 34-23 at the break and expanded its lead to 21 by the first official timeout at 14:53.
Maryland will play Massachusetts in their second game of the tournament Saturday at 1 p.m. in Greenville. Gametracker live stats will be available.
