Hokies Too Much for No. 62 Maryland

March 21, 2010
BLACKSBURG, Va. - The No. 62 Maryland men's tennis team closed its weekend on a down note, losing on the road to No. 22 Virginia Tech, 7-0.
The Terps (13-4, 1-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) have now lost consecutive matches for the first time this season.
Virginia Tech (8-3, 2-1 ACC) swept all nine matches played on the day en route to their third straight win.
Maryland's Tommy Laine turned in one of the team's better efforts. Playing at No. 2 singles and down a set, the 124th-ranked Laine fought back to force a second-set tiebreaker before falling to Virginia Tech's 67th-ranked Luka Somen, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
The Hokies' Sebastien Jacques, ranked 107th nationally for singles, defeated Maryland's Mathias Sarrazin at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-1, to clinch the match for Virginia Tech.
The Terps will return to College Park this weekend for a pair of ACC matches. Maryland will play host to No. 23 North Carolina on Friday at 2:30 p.m., and will welcome No. 50 Duke next Sunday at noon. Both matches will be held at the Tennis Center at College Park.
