March 25, 2010

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's tennis team will welcome a pair of ACC opponents to College Park this weekend, playing host to No. 18 North Carolina on Friday and No. 24 Duke on Sunday.

The Terps (13-4, 1-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) come into the weekend after having dropped a pair conference matches to Virginia and Virginia Tech. The losses were Maryland's first in more than a month.

Maryland is 11-1 in home matches during the dual season, with the team's only home loss coming against top-ranked Virginia last weekend.

North Carolina (11-2, 1-0 ACC) is riding a six-match win streak into this weekend's action. The Tar Heels are led by senior Clay Donato, ranked 39th nationally for singles. Donato is also part of the 54th-ranked doubles pair of the nation, along with teammate Stefan Hardy.

Duke (6-5, 0-0 ACC) snapped a three-match losing streak last Wednesday with a win over then-No. 3 USC. The Blue Devils feature Henrique Cunha, the ninth-ranked singles player in the nation. Cunha earned a win over the No. 1 singles player in the nation, Steve Johnson, in Duke's win over USC.

Friday's match against North Carolina will begin at 2:30 p.m., and Sunday's match against Duke will begin at noon. Both matches will be held at the Tennis Center at College Park. Admission is free for both matches.
