Maryland vs. Providence
Thursday, March 25, 2010
WNIT Third Round
College Park, Md. (Comcast Center)
FINAL SCORE: Maryland 64, Providence 77
Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese
Opening statement:
"Providence came out with a lot of firepower and were the more aggressive team and the things that were hurting us throughout the course of the season reared their ugly heads for us tonight. When you talk about turnovers, free throw shooting, and being able to get stops on the defensive end; they're all areas that hopefully will motivate us to improve this offseason."
On Maryland's 23 turnovers at this point in the season:
"On what I thought was a token press I feel that we gave too much credit to [Providence] but credit them, I think the junk of defenses man, zone, full court really took us out of rhythm and they just had a great defensive game plan and we weren't able to handle it."
Freshman Guard Dara Taylor
On why Maryland couldn't get ahead after going on scoring runs:
"We went on our runs, but we didn't stop them from going on their runs. They would come down and score, we wouldn't box out they would get an open shot and we would have a lapse on defense so our run would get cancelled out by their run against us."
Senior Guard Lori Bjork
On her feelings of the game and the season:
"Obviously this isn't how you envision your college career ending up, but I wouldn't change how much I care about this [team] how hard I've worked at it. To be able to sit here and feel the way I do in a way makes me happy because I know I put everything into it. I'm proud on what I've been able to accomplish and I'm very thankful to this program for letting me have the honor of playing at Maryland."
