COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland women's soccer team defeated Villanova, 1-0, in its spring debut on a cold, rainy, windy night at Ludwig Field.
A late goal by rising junior Ashley Grove was the difference in the match, pushing the Terps past the Wildcats.
The Terps used 22 players in total, including three goalkeepers (Yewande Balogun, Shannon Zickler, and Lianne Maldonado) who combined for the shutout.
The game-winning goal came in the 86th minute when rising junior Amy O'Sullivan collected a ball in midfield and slipped a ball to rising junior Sade Ayinde down the left flank. Ayinde committed the Villanova defender and served the ball across the box to a streaking Grove. Grove collected the ball near the penalty spot, and fired a shot into the lower left corner.
Maryland continues its spring schedule on Friday, April 2, when it hosts George Mason at 5 p.m.
