COLLEGE PARK, MD. -
The University of Maryland women's soccer team raised well over $2,000 to benefit The Claudia Mayer Breast Cancer Foundation as part of the 2010 Kicks Against Breast Cancer Tournament. In addition to their philanthropy, the Terps racked up two more victories for the spring, defeating William & Mary and Old Dominion Saturday afternoon in Germantown, Md.
In the their first match of the day, against W&M, the Terps got on the scoreboard early when freshman right back Megan Gibbons clipped a ball into Lydia Hastings, who finished hard and low to the near post. Just several minutes later, Rachel Lamarre picked the pocket of a Tribe defender and went in untouched as she ran past the goalkeeper and calmly placed the ball into the back of the net. In the second half the Terps yielded their first goal of the spring, but were able to hold on without much resistance for the 2-1 victory.
Later that afternoon Maryland took on the Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion. And once again, the Terps started fast. Two goals from Jasmyne Spencer were sandwiched by finishes from Hastings and Molly Dreska. The 4-0 half-time score held up through the second half, as the Terps closed out a successful day on and off the field.
Maryland concludes it's spring season with a game at Penn State Friday night, followed by the Annual Alumni Game Saturday afternoon.
