COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
More than 30 representatives from professional football teams descended on the University of Maryland campus Wednesday afternoon to evaluate 15 former Terps on their ability to play at the next level.
Scouts spent over three hours observing the Terps in a number of drills including the vertical jump, broad jump, bench press, pro shuttle, L drill and 40-yard dash at the team's annual Pro Timing Day.
For some it was an opportunity to show improvement, but for others it was the first - and maybe only - chance they'll get to work out individually for the pro scouts.
Da'Rel Scott and Torrey Smith attended last month's NFL Combine and chose not to take part in the individual drills after a solid showing in Indianapolis.
"I feel like I did well," Smith of his performance Wednesday which included only wide-receiver drills. "I caught everything and felt like I ran pretty good routes. It always helps when you don't drop the ball."
Smith had the second-best vertical jump (41 inches) and fourth-best 40-yard dash time (4.43) among wideouts at the NFL Combine.
"I feel like no one has questioned my athletic ability so for me it was showing more polish as a receiver and I think I did that today," Smith said.
Scott, meanwhile, had the fastest 40 time (4.34) among running backs at the NFL Combine. It was also tied for the second-fastest time overall at the week-long event.
"I hope they saw (today) I could catch the ball out of the backfield and see how good my feet are," Scott said. "I got some positive vibes from the scouts."
Adrian Moten joined Scott and Smith at the NFL Combine, but he chose to participate in all but the bench press Wednesday and it may have paid off.
After posting a 40 time of 4.61 in Indianapolis, the linebacker improved to 4.55 in his first of two attempts at Cole Fieldhouse. Moten also had a vertical of 32.5" following a 31-inch effort last month and improved in the broad jump (9'6" to 10').
The rest of the Terps working out for the scouts included Travis Baltz, Kevin Brown, Adrian Cannon, Michael Carter, Drew Gloster, Emani Lee-Odai, Antwine Perez, Paul Pinegar, Ted Townsley, LaQuan Williams, Alex Wujciak and Will Yeatman.
Wujciak, a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer, had 21 reps on the bench press, while Lee -Odai posted the top 40 time (4.48) of the day and had the No. 1 pro shuttle (4.22).
Carter had the top vertical of the day, hitting 41 1/2 inches, and the No. 1 broad jump (10.5"). Williams had the second-best broad jump (10.4").
Perez and Pinegar posted 20 reps apiece on the bench press.
