No. 15 UNC Downs Maryland

March 25, 2011
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Maryland's Jesse Kiuru won at both singles and doubles, but that was not enough for the Terrapins to overcome the 15th-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team which won 6-1 Friday afternoon to move into a tie for first in the rugged Atlantic Coast Conference.
The 43rd-ranked Terps (9-6, 1-3) had a chance to steal the doubles point at the start of the match, but UNC's Jose Hernandez and Brennan Boyajian, the No. 22-ranked tandem in the country, outlasted Maros Horny and Jan Surovic 8-6 at the No. 1 position.
Boyajian was also sharp in singles. His 6-1, 6-1 win over Sergio Wyss at No. 2 singles pushed the Tar Heels' lead to 3-0.
Kiuru, who teamed with Andy Magee for a win in doubles, cut the deficit to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Zach Humter at No. 6 singles. But William Parker clinched the match for the Tar Heels (8-4, 3-0) with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Magee at No. 5 singles.
The Terps will remain in North Carolina over the weekend, playing at 10th-ranked Duke at noon Sunday.
