COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team concluded its spring season with a 2-0 victory over Penn State Saturday night. The game was played in a cold, breezy rain; but that did not stop both teams from playing quality soccer.

Maryland's 2010 NSCAA All-American Jasmyne Spencer scored the game's first goal, just 15 minutes into the first half. Amy O'Sullivan won a ball in midfield, and beat a Penn State defender off the dribble before slipping a well-weighted thru-ball to Spencer. Spencer took her first touch away from the onrushing defender before pulling a shot back across the frame that found the back of the net.

Less than 10 minutes later sophomores Olivia Wagner and Danielle Hubka worked a nifty give-and-go, eventually springing Wagner into a position on the left side, from where she smacked a 25-yard left-footed bullet into the lower right-hand corner for a 2-0 lead.

Both teams created opportunities in the second half, but neither group was able to convert on those chances. Maryland had seven different players play in the backline during the game. They combined with goalkeepers Yewande Balogun and Shannon Zickler for the shutout against Penn State's attack.

While the Terps concluded their outside competition for the spring, the annual Alumni Game awaits Maryland next Saturday at 3 p.m. on Ludwig Field.
