Terps Improve to No. 41 Nationally

SKILLMAN, N.J. - Fresh off its first win at the ACC Championship in 23 years, the Maryland men's tennis team is now No. 41 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings which were released Tuesday.
Maros Horny, who plays at either No. 1 or 2 singles, remains No. 106 in the ITA rankings for the Terps (12-12) who were 48th nationally last week.
After knocking off the second-ranked doubles tandem in the nation Friday, Virginia's Michael Shabaz and Drew Courtney, Horny and John Collins entered the ITA rankings at No. 32.
Horny is also in the national doubles rankings with Jan Surovic, checking in at No. 71, though the duo has not played together since April 10.
With the regular season and the conference tournament concluded, the Terps are hopefully of gaining a bid to the NCAA Tournament which begins Thursday, May 19 at campus sites.
The Terps have five victories over ranked teams this season after having the same amount the previous five years.
Maryland, then No. 48, knocked 44th-ranked Florida State Thursday in the opening round of the ACC Championship. The win was the first for the Terps at the ACC Tournament since 1989 and their first in an opening-round league match since 1986.
At-large berths for the NCAAs will be announced on Tuesday, May 3. The announcement will be made at 5:30 p.m. EDT on NCAA.com.
Maryland has never made the NCAA field, which is now 64 teams, since it went to a single-elimination tournament format in 1978.
The list of individuals selected to the singles and doubles championships will be posted on NCAA.com no later than 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4.
