COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman forward Alyssa Thomas of the Maryland women's basketball team was named the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year, announced this week.

Thomas was also named to Full Court Press' All-Freshman Second Team this week as well. She was one of just two ACC freshmen named to the Second Team, as Chelsea Gray earned a nod as well.

A school-record seven-time ACC Rookie of the Week selection, Thomas scored in double figures in 13 of her 14 league games and 28 of 31 games overall this season. She helped Maryland register a 24-8 overall mark and its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in seven years.

She led the Terrapins in scoring with 14.5 points per game. She added 7.3 rebounds per contest and nabbed 66 steals on the year. Thomas led all ACC freshmen in scoring, rebounding and steals.

Connecticut's Maya Moore was named the ECAC Division I Player of the Year. From the ACC, Jasmine Thomas of Duke and Carolyn Swords of Boston College were named to the ECAC Division I All-Star First Team.
