COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore quarterback Danny O'Brien threw two touchdown passes to Ronnie Tyler, including a 65-yarder on the first play from scrimmage, to spark the Red team past the White, 35-7, Saturday in the annual Maryland Red-White Spring Game on Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.

O'Brien completed 16 of 23 passes for 199 yards to spark the Red team, which featured the first-team offense and second and third-team defense. He also had a 27-yard scoring pass to Tyler in the fourth quarter, capping a 12-play, 81-yard drive that was the final touchdown of the game.

D.J. Adams, who had 56 yards on 13 carries, finished a 78-yard, 11-play drive midway through the opening period with a 2-yard touchdown. Davin Meggett led the Red team on the ground with 73 yards on 12 carries, including a 15-yard touchdown late in the first quarter that put the Red team ahead 21-0.

Early in the second period, reserve safety Anthony Green rambled 51 yards with an interception that gave the Red team a 28-0 halftime edge.

Despite the scoring disparity in the first half, head coach Randy Edsall liked the intensity and the fact the team came out of the spring relatively injury free.

"I thought we had a pretty good day out there today," Edsall said. "Good things: we had no injuries when it came down to the spring and relatively we're in very good shape from a health standpoint. I thought the guys really competed hard."

The White team got on the board with 3:04 left in the third quarter when C.J. Brown scored on a 5-yard scramble. The White team consisted of the second and third-team offense and the first-team defense.

Kevin Dorsey and Quintin McCree each had four catches for the Red team, while Tyler finished with 99 yards on his three catches.

"I'm excited about the receivers that we have coming back," Edsall said. "I think once we get everyone out there, and we've got a rotation going, I think we've got some guys who have the ability to make good things happen."

Jeremiah Wilson led the White team with 27 yards on seven carries, with Nigel King catching a team-high three passes for 19 yards. Brown had 96 yards on a 9-for-24 passing day for the White team.

The Terps didn't open the playbook on Saturday.

"The thing is, you've got to remember we didn't let them do anything," Edsall said. "We just basically played a couple of coverages and really one front the whole time. We had no movement (on the defensive line)."

Kenny Tate and Cameron Chism each finished with 11 tackles for the White defense, while Joe Vellano and Clarence Murphy had two sacks apiece. Lamonte Gaddis had seven stops and Green a pair of interceptions to lead the Red defense.
