STONY BROOK, N.Y. -
Top-seeded Maryland will face No. 2 Northwestern in a rematch of last season's title bout Sunday at 4 p.m. in the 2011 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship.
Defending champion Maryland (21-1) is seeking its 11th NCAA crown. Sarah Mollison and Katie Schwarzmann combined for eight goals to lift the Terps past fifth-seeded Duke in the national semifinals Friday. A dominant defensive effort forced Duke into 18 turnovers on the day.
Shannon Smith paces Northwestern (20-2), which narrowly edged North Carolina by one goal in its semifinal action. The junior Tewaaraton finalist boasts 124 points in 2011, including 82 goals.
The Terps erased a 6-0 deficit to top Northwestern, 13-11, in the championship game last season.
