COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A pair of former Maryland football players were recently selected in professional drafts.

Michael Carter was selected in the third round of Sunday's CFL Draft by the BC Lions and Dave Philistin was taken in the seventh round of last week's UFL Draft by the Las Vegas Locomotives.

Carter played in 11 games last season as a reserve cornerback. The native of Windsor, Ontario, was among the team's fastest defensive backs during his four-year career. He played in 19 career games and was ranked as the No. 13 prospect by the CFL Scouting Bureau last fall.

Philistin ended his Maryland career in 2008 with 251 career tackles, including 218 during his final two seasons, the third-highest total in the league over that span (248 by Michael Tauiliili of Duke; 220 by Vincent Rey of Duke).

The Manchester, N.H., native appeared in the last 49 games of his career. He started 25 of the final 26 games of his career, playing Mike and Will linebacker.

Philistin signed a free-agent deal with the Seattle Seahawks after the 2009 NFL Draft but did not make the team
